Hunters Cuckoo Clock

The largest and most impressive of our large range of cuckoo clocks. This style is known as a Hunting Clock, for obvious reasons and originates from the Black Forest of Germany. All the elaborate carving on the clock has significance in the hunting world, including the trophies of deer, hare and pheasant, muzzle loading rifles-shotguns, hunting horn and ammunition pouch.

Cuckoo clocks date from around 1750, though the well-known "chalet" style didn't appear until 1850. Originally made during the cold Black Forest winter, helping the makers to fill in time while waiting for the snow to melt, the peddlers arrived in spring to collect and sell the finished clocks.

The cuckoo of course was the welcome first sign of spring.

If it's Clocks, It's Claphams Clocks!
